to help children in our community
The holidays are a time for giving, caring and sharing the magic of hope for the future. Won’t you Team Up with TWCP PTA to bring hope, joy and the magic of reading to less fortunate children in our own area?
College Park High School and its PTA have adopted CISD’s Runyan Elementary to provide much needed assistance, support and mentoring. Runyan serves a disadvantaged area and, unlike our schools in The Woodlands, has no PTA or PTO and little parental support. Last year, the TWCP PTA board, in lieu of a holiday luncheon, took a holiday party to the kindergarten classes at Runyan. The students made a keepsake photo ornament to give their parents, decorated cookies, read a story and, consistent with CISD’s belief that the single most important thing you can do for a child is to “Read for a Better Life”, each child took home a book of their very own and each teacher received a set of classroom books. It was the highlight of the season for all.
This year, we have been asked, and we would love, to provide a holiday party for all grade levels.
A project so large requires the additional support of our school and community. We need more than 600 age-appropriate books, gift wrap, craft supplies and snack items. Some of these items can be donated, but we can stretch resources with cash donations that will allow us to make bulk purchases. We need co-sponsors who will donate $100 or more to co-sponsor a party and books for at least one classroom (the total cost per classroom is likely to be $150-200). Donors who give $200 or more before November 15th will be recognized in all publicity for the event, including company logos on posters at both schools and area businesses, on the TWCP PTA website and in any press releases. You may also chose to add a classroom book with a bookplate recognizing your generous gift for years to come.
You may never know how a single kindness can touch a heart, inspire a future or change a life, but in this project, you can know that your kindness and generosity will reap rewards right here in our own community. Won’t you join us in giving back to our community this holiday season?
